Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is an activist in the field of feminist media, public speaker and Canadian. Feminist Frequency is a website that hosts videos and commentaries on the representation of female characters in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic that has received prizes for her work, is an activist blogger. She is the author and director-general of Feminist Frequency an educational not-for-profit site that examines the representation of women within popular culture narratives. Alongside working to bring awareness to the harassment and targeted attack on women and as well as other minorities, she is committed to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes associated with pop culture. Sarkeesian, who has a Master's in Political and Social thought in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a popular public speaking. She has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. While a student at university Sarkeesian was interested in the issues surrounding gender and rights for women at an early stage. This ambitious woman planned to launch an internet series on gender representation in games, but was the target of a harassment campaign online. But the harassment did not discourage her. It only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. Numerous awards have been given to her in recognition of all of the contribution she has contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores the representations of women in popular media narratives.
